MGA Color selection for an MGA

I am in the process of getting ready to paint my "A". I have decided to paint it red, but which red. I really am undecided as to which red to use. Can any of you "A" owners give me some suggestions. There are so many reds to choose from.

I prefer a bright red without the orange hue.

Thanks Ray

Ray,
I don't have an "A" but have a "B" that I have been working on for a few months now. It is red, well is called Crandberry Red but is from Western Paint. Is about the olny brand that was available close by. Will attach picture. Light not real good as was getting dark.
Good Luck,
Tom

I don't have an MG, but I am of the school of thought that you should paint your car whichever color you desire. There are a few cars in my local club that follow along this same thinking. My TR6, two MG TD's and an MG TF. At first they were sort of looked down on. Now, all four are easily accepted and have even won multiple awards at different car shows. Here they are.

The TR6, TF and one of the TD's in one show.

My 58 MGA is Ford Matador red(My choice when I was 14)...and my wifes 61 is mercedes white(P.O's choice at some point in it's life). The thing with red MGA's is there is loads of them! Thats why I've made mine stand out a little by adding alot of different things to it so it doesn't blend in with all the other red MGA's at shows...and I've got a wall full of awards to show for it. If I where to do another MGA(I'll probably be redoing the 61 as my next project after the TC) I think I'd go with one of the original, but less popular colors, like Dove Grey, or Black. Heres a couple shots of the red MGA, the color tends to look really vibrant when in the sun, and really deep and dark in the shade. If you want to see some more closer shots or something let me know, I've got a ton of them.

I was a little disappointed by the orange hue of Jaguar Flame Red. The paint on the car looked different from the paint sample...not a great suprise. The Ford Matador red looks like what I was hoping the Jag colour would be, of course a lot depends on the electronic interpretation of the colours - camera or scanner, then monitor. Ya think you could send a door for examination??? Or the next time I'm in Toronto.....????

Here's a pic of the '56 wearing Jag Flame Red..

Well, next time your in Toronto your more than welcome to come by and take a look....Unfortunatly I don't have anything I could send, don't even have any paint left(The car was last painted in the 70's)But I've got a scratch I need to fix this summer so I am going to have to get some mixed up. I do have the label from the original can with the code and everything on it. The pics are all from the same digi cam(different web host for the first one). The reason I like the color is because there is no orange in it at all.

Fixed the image link for ya:

Hey Thanks! How does that work? If you don't mind a little tutoring for the woefully computer ignorant?

With this particular forum; right click on your pic, hit properties...copy the address. Then above your textbox in the post/reply page you'll see a little add image icon, click that, paste your address in there.....and then your done.

BTW: I am extremely computer ignorant....I just picked this up after a long time of wondering.

Dove Grey with an Ox Blood interior would look awesome. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

It does. I have a friend who did his MGA in that color combo, it is a beautiful car. I can't help with the red, I'm going to paint my red 56 MGA some other color, maybe Tyrolite/Ash Green or a blue.

Thanks for the input. The ford matador red really looks good on the "A". Chevy has a victory red that is very nice. The dodge viper red is also a vibrant red. I have been told that ferarri has a red that is super. So many colors, so little time.

Thanks to all of the members who took the time to respond to my request.

Ray

and Mazda Classic red is nice too.
