Czar Nicholas II sent photographer Sergei Prukudin-Gorsky on a tour through "all the Russias". The photographer used a three-plate method, requiring the subjects to remain still for several seconds. From 1909 to 1915 he recorded thousands of scenes across the continent.
Quite a collection of pictures, as Russia moved from the Czar's Empire, into WW1, and Revolution.
Many of these are now in the Library of Congress.
