I just bought a 1977 MGB that has tan seats. It has tan door panels and black carpet. What color should the carpet be tan or black?

Thanks, Tom

Dark Brown...my '79 Pageant Blue had Biscuit seats & panels & dark brown carpet...really set one another off!

Hey Tom,

It sounds like my 78B Roadster has (or had) the exact same interior as yours. I’m not 100% sure about the seats (GT cloth style) and they look really good. The carpet was all ratty when I first got her, so I’m pretty sure it was original. But in my case the carpet was “both” black & tan with tan paneling and door headers. I’ve since replaced the “two tone” carpet with just strait black carpet kit. I also replaced the tan door headers with black ones and installed new tan panels as well as keeping the tan cloth seats.

I think what you have Tan seats & Panels with the black carpet was quite common. But I wouldn’t worry about originality unless you really want that. So I would recommend going with whatever floats your boat.

I myself really like the “Black & Tan” themed look of my B’s interior.

I reread the initial post after reading your reply...all original carpet was black, thus it 'should' be black...however, were it my car, it 'should' be dark brown!

I agree...........original carpet from the factory would have been black, except for the piece that covers the battery box. That would have been chestnut. Brown or tan carpet looks better on the car though.
