Color for Top Frame BT7

I am working with an upholstery shop on a new interior, tonneau cover and top and had a question about the color of the top frame. My intent is to get the top frame powder coated but I have no idea what the original color was. Currently it looks to be a light gray color. FYI - my car is a 1961 AH 3000 Mark II BT7.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am in the process of putting on a new top also.

The original frame color is grey. Someone may chime in with what spray can manufacture and color you can buy at the local hardware store.

The frame color was grey to match the inside (headliner) material which was grey.

I'm installing a blue Robins Sunfast top. The choice of headliners is black or tan, not grey. Being the frame should match the headliner color, I am painting my frame satin black.

Just throwing this information out, that the frame color should be the same color as the headline, in case you're in the same situation as me.

Good luck.

Roger,

Sounds like we are doing the same thing. I am also getting a Robins Sunfast Top, with the black headliner. I do find it appealing to do the frame in a satin black, as my car has a black exterior, and I am doing the interior in red with black piping (just like it was born), so the color scheme would work. Thanks for your two cents.

I have a black headliner (canvas) but the Moss straps are grey. The frame is black thanks to the PO. Hey, who sees it but me? Besides it is suppose to be down except in rain.

The closest I came, after buying about six (6) different brands/shades of gray, was a dead-on match to the remaining original paint on both sets of BN6 top bows that I have.

This:
America's Finest
by Rustoleum
Smoke Gray #HD2886

I was able to paint both sets of BN6 top bows with a single can.

Randy,

Thanks for the lead on the paint. I see many of your responses to my and other people's inquiries and they are always thoughtful, and based on a great deal of experience. You are a great assest to the hobby and a real resource for the Healey Marquee in particular.

Thanks again,

Hello @ all,

regarding Randy .. :iagree: I would like to say that I nominated Randy for the Dave Russel Award because, of his all time professional answers and pics. I can not believe how much time this guy have :wall:
But my vote was not enough to win...

Bye michel who is actually back on his restoration

Krylon "dove grey" was what I used..can be sanded and recoated easily.

I tested that brand/color too, but it was several shades lighter (darker?) than my top bows, so it didn't make it into the final round.

Edit: Thanks Michael. There're some pretty active guys on the MG & Triumph boards (look at the all-time record post counts) so I can't hold a candle to them.

Randy:

I was wondering if you tested that color......will buy a can of rustoleum and check it out on my Jag top.
