Color Combinations for BJ7

I need some suggestions for repainting the BJ7. The car is currently beige with a tan interior. I had intended to paint the car yellow and white. My wife and son both are attempting to persuade me to paint it some other combination. What are some other colors that would compliment the tan interior? I like the Healey ice blue and old english white combo. Are there any shades of blue that could be used with tan? Would really appreciate your input and/or photos that would assist me in my quest.

Thanks,

Ray

Dan,
I think dark colors work better with a tan interior. A dark British racing green (Jaguar has one such shade) or a dark blue if you are leaning towards blue. I've seen one yellow with tan interior (Volkswagon yellow used on the new beetle) and it looked surprisingly good. I'll see if I can locate some photos.

Cheers,
John

I agree with John. My BJ8 is BRG with black interior, so I am biased, but my cousin had a BJ7 in BRG with tan interior, purchased at Barrett-Jackson a couple of years ago. It is truly a gorgeous combination. The original BRG on BJ7's GN25 has a lot of yellow in it. The BRG on BJ8's, GN29 is darker. But since it is your choice, paint it with a color you like best. Somewhere on a forum thread you can find a Healey/MG paint chart. While the most popular colors were Ice Blue, Colorado Red, OE White, BRG, and Black, I was amazed to see all the different colors that were available, but probably rare.

I too agree with John, my current car is a 75 B White with a (oh, why did they choose this combo) dark tan interior. I'm working hard to save enough money to paint her Gn29

I agree with BRG as a good choice. A nice burgundy might go with tan also. Check out the "Members Rides" gallery off the main page to see what others have come up with.

P.S. My avatar is not what my car looks like. That was a joke for my father, who was the original owner.

Personally, I would paint the car the way it came from the factory, but, if you like the tan interior, it will look good with a nice BRG, or a dark blue, or a burgundy color!
How about a nice dark metallic red, with a tan side ?

Hi Radford,
When I started mailing pictures to my dad of the work I had done, he'd always say "Good work son, when do I get my Healey back?" So I tok a picture of a blank parking space in front of my house and grabbed a Healey photo off the internet. It started as a blue one restored by Vons I believe. Anyway, I turned it white, added the flames and the spoiler to it in photoshop and sent it off to my dad saying "The cars done. Do you still want it?" I think he'll let me keep the car now, unless he visits.

black and tan is a great combo...also the name given to a rather tasty pint of stout over beer. Otherwise you can't go wrong with BRG and tan, very British.

Ray, I dont know if your interior is the very light tan, parchment colour that the factory for some bizarre reason called Grey.

BJ7s with this interior only came in Colorado Red and Florida Green. Personally I dont think Florida Green suits the convertibles as much as the earlier cars. Ditto for two tones.

Id go for the BRG or the red, or maybe even the black. (BRG actually came with a black interior, and the black cars had red interiors.)

just my 2c

My favorite has always been BRG with a tan interior on most any English sports car. Also have seen the cove painted black on a BRG Austin Healey. Looks sharp.

Derek,

The interior is tan, not the grey color that you mentioned. It appears that most members recommend brg. I am a little concerned about the dark color green showing swirls as well as body imperfections.

Anyone have any pictures of healeys with tan interiors and blue exteriors. It would appear that the healey ice blue is too light to go with the tan interior.

If you go non original you could try the metallic light/mid green as seen on a lot of Aston Martins. The Sebring Healeys were first painted this colour before being changed to healey Blue.

In the June edition of Octane magazine there is a picture of Stirling Moss' personal C type Jaguar painted in this colour which he refers to as a version of BRG

Ray...try this...is sort of fun...you can pick and chose your colors and see them on the car...just click on "Healey Catalog"...then click on the year and car you want...the rest is easy to follow...

Henri,

Thanks. That really gives me a very good idea of what color scheme would look good on my BJ7. I must say that the healey blue and white is a stunning combo.

I'm travelling on business at present, but when I get back at the weekend I can scan a picture of Moss's c type for you.

My car is healey blue & white, ever since i was a kid ive considered this as 'the' Healey colour scheme. Not sure it will go with tan though

Derek

Here is another opinion. I would go for black, I know a black BJ8 with tan top. It looks great. Another reason for black is; there is so many Healeys painted BRG, red, ice blue, so why not do something that is a little bit different.
