TR4/4A Cold Weather TR4 Starting--Metallic Sound

I guess it's normal in cold weather to hear the ring gear and starter pinion roughly engage with a discomforting metallic ping sound on ignition spark?

I only say that because the sound seems rather familiar to what I heard years ago in my other TR4--in the cold winters.

thx

Maybe the grease is a little cold/hard and slowing things down a little.

Cold weather -- you must be referring to that morning when it got down to 45 degrees here in Tucson?

Actually, my TR4 engages with a fairly abrupt metallic sound. Considering what it going on -- the mating of two metal parts without the benefit of any lube -- it is pretty much the sound I would expect to hear.

Having had several recent opportunities to see the flywheel, I do not think anything untoward is going on with mine.

Next time we're together we'll compare starter noises.
