Why is it so hard to start my car when it is cold. I will have to try 15 or 20 times before the car stays running. Once warm it will start with a bump of the button. Skip

Hi Skip, maybe the choke is not set up properly.-FWIW---Keoke--You might try turning the fast idle screws in about a half turn and see if that helps?

When I worked for Austin-Healey West back in the 70s, cold San Francisco mornings would be a bit hectic. We didn't have enough room to work around all the cars kept in the shop overnight, so first thing in the morning we'd have to put close to a dozen Healeys out on the street (alley, really). I suppose we'd use a can of starting fluid a week, but those sleeping ba$tards would start right up at the first touch of the key. Good thing too, most of the cars didn't have enough battery to crank them more than a few times before click, click, click! Keep in mind, those Healeys were generally seeing daily duty and only came to us when absolutely necessary, usually on the end of a hook!

Is there such a thing? 1F here right now, not counting the wind chill. I would swap this for a cold morning in San Fran any day of the week. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Hi Skip,
Maybe as Keoke says, you are not getting full travel on the choke linkage. If, with the choke pulled, you can move the mechanism further, there is room for adjustment. It's also quite common for one carb choke to bottom out before the other is fully operated. Chokes need to be synchronized just like throttles do.

Steve, Mark Twain once said that "the coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco."

However, as it is -6F here right now, I would gladly be in SF.

Hi Jeff,
I'd take SF again too, it's not much warmer down here in Toledo.
