Cold weather Effecting Performance? +-

After having my car on the road for a couple of years, I'm begining to feel the differences of the colder and warmer air flow through my system,
I find that in the colder weather my engine seems to perfom much better.
Not sure if it had any thing to do with specific atmospheric conditions.

Any thoughts?

btw: Im running duel webber dgv with a header stock cam,
Idle is at 800 steady, w/94 octane

Colder air is denser. More air...more fuel...bigger bang. It probably also means that those DGV's are running a bit rich. Do you have a fuel pressure regulator on them??

My Strombergs definitly idle smoother in cooler weather. I think the engine runs with a little more power, but I'm comparing Summer temps in the 90's with equal humidity to the Fall's 60's and 70's with low humidity.

In the various Brithsh cars I have owned they all seem to run better with external temps in the range of about 70 to 40 degrees farenheit. I think at the hotter temps you get underhood heat that raises the ambient temp of air going in and thins the mixture combined with possible issues of the fuel heating up possibly to the boiling point as well.

In my opinion and experience they do run better when it is a little cooler and I consider it normal.

no pressure regulator & just a stock mech. fuel pump,
they have elect. choke...I had them re-jetted prior to installation.

but maybe running a little rich, I'll look into it

Kodanja, I think your observations are right on. the effect of cold dense air is particularly recognised in aeronautics. My little 85 HP Luscombe climbs significantly better on a crisp winter day than on a hot, sultry summer day.

Bill..... what Art said! Did you get a chance to talk to Dr Formica at the CTR show? He was talking about the relative merits of supercharging which to quote Art "air is denser. More air...more fuel...bigger bang" Then Doc asked if we noticed that our cars run better in colder weather for the same reasons "air is denser. More air...more fuel...bigger bang"

So...... it's 55 degrees out......I think I'll take a ride and see if I notice anything!

We don't see snow very often: it's really a treat when we do. I can imagine that it could become a pain if it lasted too long, though.

Don't know if the cool evening air had any effect or not.
But the Crypt Car managed a 90 mile r/t at 65-70 mph
without breaking down. 75* air temp.

For those not in the loop- a 90 mile r/t in the Crypt
Car (without returning on a flat bed; is a stunning
accomplish.
