Cold Starting Problem for a BJ7

I have a difficult time starting the BJ7 when the engine is cold. When the engine is warm, it will start with just a touch on the starter button.

The timing looks to be a little advanced, perhaps 5 degrees. I adjusted the carbs, and the car pulls nicely in all gears. Exhaust tips show nice color, not too black, not too white. Other than this cold starting problem the car runs beautifully.

Suggestions???

Ray, given that you have discribed the engine as running very well and probably in a good state of tune, including carbs, Then the two things to make sure are at optimum is the state of charge of the battery, (slow cranking when cold will make for harder starting), and also make sure the choke is set properly including the fast idle feature. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif
 
The thing that strikes me is twice fold, gents.

Carbs are a tad LEAN + advanced timing = hard cold starts.

i.e., when the choke is engaged the carbs are actually at running condition not "enriched". Add the advanced timing..... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonono.gif
