Coils and weak spark?

I have a weak spark, (no start) and I tested all of my coils. The resistance on each are as follows: 1.9, 1.6 & 3.4. When I removed the spark plugs, hooked up the spark plug wire and grounded each out, I did not get a blue spark (with the coil with the 3.4 reading). I have a new condenser so that should be OK.
It is Sunday night so will not be heading out until the morning to locate a new coil if needed. The book says that I should get a LUCAS LA12. But we all know that the local "experts" have no clue so I am asking you the real experts.
What coil should I look for from the usual local sources , Autozone, Schucks(now something else),CARQUEST or NAPA?. Give me some number please.
Thank you

The LA12 coil is a "standard" coil which should have close to 3 Ohms primary resistance. You should be able to ask for any generic 3 Ohm coil and be OK. You could spend a bit more and get a Bosch Blue coil also. Sorry, I don't have part numbers but if you tell them you want a Bosch Blue coil for an early 1960s VW Beetle, that should work.

It is hard explaining things like this to counter people who don't seem to understand that you can use a part from one car on a totally different make and model.
