I had trouble with an infrequent miss and cutting out and replaced lots of stuff, plugs, wires, cap, rotor (all needed done anyway) then cleaned up wiring mess and replaced fuse block (3 fuses for whole car) with two blocks (14 fuses for whole car) and generally pulled hair out looking for the cause of the miss.
The ignition switch went bad, it was causing a miss as it's connections were heating up and melting the plastic on the back of the switch so it was replaced.
Things were fine for a while.
Then last week it started missing really bad, like off - on - off - on almost sounding like a full race cam in there "chuga - chuga - chuga".
I pulled over and opened the hood and looked, things looked normal but still going "chuga - chuga - chuga".
I reached out and touched - not pull, not tug, not wiggle, but touched the wires to either side of the coil and "purr - purr - purr" said the motor.
Ok - that was weird.
My connections to the coil were redone and very solid.
Ok I said to myself, this thing is at least as old as this car so I'm getting a new one.
Off to the parts monkey's and ordered a new coil.
Picked it up next day, to my surprise it has a big sticker on the end saying "Made in America".
So I put it in & hooked it up and haven't had a single misfire since!
