Like the DR. said, on an old car the worst you can do is forget to re-polarize (flash) the generator. That can cause damage. Obviously electrical accessories (radios, etc.) could be damaged but those would be rare on a car that vintage. Electric fuel pump do need to be addressed but I don't think they were on many cars prior to 1960.
The coil will work "backwards" with reduced output. Neither the starter nor the wiper motors are affected by polarity swaps.
