Bugsy acted up on me yesterday again with car starting missing and then just died. Pull over to the side of the road, turn off key and turn back on and he started right up as usual. I'm thinking more and more I've got a coil going out. Rather than the usual sources can I simply use a generic GM Round Can Non Ballasted 12VDC Coil. On a '68 I do not believe these are ballasted. This is a $24.95 solution from O'Reillys rather than an expensive usual source solution.
I've gone through fule issues already and I am fairly confident this is not the issue. Problem did happen on the way home from grocery store where I started smelling fuel. Popped the bonnet and discovered one of the hose clamps had not been fully tightened when I had carbs top off the other day. Fortunately I did have a screwdriver with me and was able to retighten properly. I replace all fuel line and clamps this am. Line was crappy but did appear a little swollen.
Anyway, can I use the $25.00 GM Generic coil without any issues?
