Coil connections..

Ok, since we have had allot of us getting ready for spring with engine rebuilds to wire...a question.

I read elsewhere on this forum that you should have only wires hooked to the coil, will more lead to a quick demise of said coil? I have a pos converted to neg ground, nd Petronix and a wire I ran to get switched power. My tach was rebuilt and I have the wire from the tach tied into the red petronix lead at the coil as well...for a total of 2 on the neg side and 3 wires on the pos side...good or bad?
 
HI Velo, You already have switched power to the coil. So I do not see any need to add that lead. The White wire from the switch and the red one from the pertronics common on the + or CB terminal should be adequate. Similarly, only the Black wire from the Pertronics connected to the opposite coil terminal will keep you out of trouble.--Fwiw---Keoke-?
 
I ran a power from the coil to a fan. I will need to chase what wires are connected so that I can figure it out...more on this after I get a chancew to look at her.
 
Recommend that you reroute your power to the fan from something other than ignition. Ignition can use all the voltage, with minimum draw that it can get.

Have you considered a fan relay? i.e., Power from the fuseblock or ignition switch to the relay, signal to the relay from temp sender.
 
That's ok for swtiched power reasons but you would never want to run an accessory off this lead (the ingition switch), ever. You can do this, but you absolutely should put a relay in there and then hook the hot lead to the relay from the hot lead connected straight from the battery to the solenoid (with fuse, of course).
