So - do you just "make a pot of whatever's cheapest"?

Or do you have favorite coffee(s), and favorite coffee making techniques?

How 'bout sharing your preferences and methods!

One of my breakfast favorites is Vermont Coffee Company "Dos", medium roast, coarse grind, made in a filter basket. For "espresso", a dark roast, fine grind, and a manual "Flair" press.

To me, Eight O'Clock Original has really changed. Very bitter and off-taste. Nothing like it was fifty years ago (which also describes me ...).

Both Janet and I were weaned on coffee and chicory. Our current brand is Luzianne, available locally, as is Community, but we prefer the Luzianne. Union Coffee offers a great one, but can't get it here. And then there's CDM (Cafe du Monde).

Anyway, we have a standard drip coffee maker. Does fine for us. Believe I'll have one more cup!

That said, I remain loosely committed to the search for my perfect cup of coffee. When I was a child and we would visit the home of Dutch immigrant friends (long before I ever drank coffee) the coffee had the most wonderful - evocative smell. Twice I have tasted coffee that tasted "right." Once at Dalvay By the Sea in Prince Edward Island - (a gorgeous hotel BTW - we could afford high tea, not to stay there :grin: ) - The problem being that their coffee is their own blend - I asked. The second time was at the home of a parishioner wha was a Dutch immigrant - but, for reasons unremembered I could not establish the brand. So, quietly, the search goes on.

I also love Cubita
have a friend in St Martin. that sends me some for Xmas
And always come home from there with a vac. bag or two.

Chicory is not for everyone, but it does cut the acidity.

We used to joke that unless your spoon stands up in the cup, it's too weak! One thing I can't stand is seeing the bottom of the cup through the coffee! And I don't use sugar or cream/milk. But every once in a while cafe au lait is a nice treat.

Whenever we're in N.O., we always make trips to both Cafe du Monde and Morning Call for cafe au lait and beignets. When Morning Call was in the French Quarter, it was a local favorite; I seem to remember that when I was a kid, they would bring them to your car in a special area.

I've had several "favorites" over time. Just now having a pot of Death Wish. And like Brer Mick, it goes unadulterated.
When in Miami though, a cafe con leche, preferably from a ma-n-pa corner store, can be a treat. And Thai iced coffee is on that same list.

Mostly though, anything hot and dark will do. Truth to tell, I'll drink cold coffee if it's all there is. Cold coffee is fine, warm CAB is a different story! :smirk:
 
A strange but pleasant experience was waking into a ... Burger King in Ponce Puerto Rico
the coffee aroma was amazing yea not the mainland sawdust blend .

when working in Izmir Turkey the plant had a man that was there tea and coffee brewer
that was it that’s all he did all day long
amazing what would come off of that little single burner stove top.
not a big tea fan but one day he had no espresso
so he made me a traditional cup of tea
wow very good the Turks love there tea and know how to make it
the plant manager cornered us after a few days and said I and my two field techs were to stop tipping him as he was upsetting the plant managers as We were tipping him as much as sum of the plant bottling line workers were making a day Oops..
 
I usually get the el-cheapo San Francisco blend K-cups at Costco, but also like some of the blends that Black Rifle sells (mail order). I currently have a bag of their “coffee or die” and their “Gun Ship” blend in my pantry. (They are a veteran owned company)
 
In the morning it is Folgers, strong and black.

In the evening I like a number of the Starbucks blends. At the moment we are working on the Christmas blend and Sumatra. Komodo Dragon is another good one.
On vacation at New Smyrna Beach we get coffee at the Island Roasters. Great coffee.
I worked in Laos a couple of years ago and brought back some coffee. Wish I had brought more or could find it again. Lao Mountain Coffee it was a great coffee.

Cuban coffee sometimes. Thick and sweet.

Tom this this thread is very apropos as I’m enjoying a nice flat white in Sydney right now.

one of my very favourites - discovered many years ago stuck in the Miami airport for 24 hours.

That’s right, even the cup handle is on the wrong side.
 
And I thought MY coffee was strong! How does that stuff stay in the cup??? :jester:
