Cockpit Tonneau Covers

In an effort to distract myself from that damnable windshield to body seal, I thought I'd post something new.

I'm interested to know if anyone with a rollbar in their Spridget is able to use a cockpit tonneau cover. Is there a company that makes them, or would one just have to be modified in order to fit around the rollbar tubing?

Anyone ever tried it?

I would think modify is the choice...with velcor around, it shouldn't be a problem.

i have never seen any commercialy made. i took out my rollbar so i could use my cover.

I'm in the same position. I turned my Midget into a permanent roadster but would still like to use a tonneau. I've been thinking about this for some time also but the best solution I have come up with is to modify one. Also, with the extensive mods to my car, I have thought about boxing out everything from the seat back to the back rail and then making a tonneau that just covered from the box to the dash. The hard thing about a tonneau modified to COVER the roll bar is you would lose all rear visibilty unless you sewed in a pair of windows. Of course you may not be thinking about driving with the tonneau on either /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have had my tonneau modified to fit with a roll bar. Similar to the thread above.

It was done by making two slits on angles from the back of the tonneau between the snaps and then sewing a piece of 2" naughyde to the lower flap. Velcro was added to the top and bottom for closure and all edges were sewn.

This looks good because when the cover is closed, the added piece is not visible, only original material.

Joel, I've also seen it done by cutting a keyhole in the cover. The round part of the hole that fits around the bar has a rolled edge sewn in, and the slotted portion has a zipper installed. Any decent shop should be able to do that for you. I know there are several places in the Monterey area that could handle it.

That sounds like a good way to go also. I definitely want something clean and simple.

Which shops would you recommend here? I always drive past this one in downtown Monterey on my way home from work, but it looks like a pretty expensive shop. Can't remember the name offhand.

Joel, I don't have any particular shop in mind. I just know that there are several in the area that do boat stuff, etc.
Of course, I would also expect anything there to be expensive, just because of the nature of the area.
If I can think of anything closer to Salinas I'll let you know.
