Cockpit surround?

Thanks- that is interesting- I have got an early Sprite MkII (HAN6L726) and an early parts manual #AKD1575- the manulal is so early in fact it still shows BE rear bumper parts in the illustrations, and is missing some pretty good chunks of illustrations, like all of the lighting. The trim piece over the dash seems to use the same oval head countersunk screws so i am surprised to think that it would have been vinyl covered. In fact the parts manual shows the same screws used for the dash trim (they call it scuttle trim) as the rest of the trim parts. My plan was just to polish it all , although Zeck's work is beautiful...

Thanks for all the complements. I still think this is some sort of upgrade from the dealer -- maybe a 1 or 2 year item.

What I would not do -- if you had padded trim - is to remove it. I think they are completely different items. And if you have aluminun, I've never heard of a add on kit.

Search your local brit guys who has parts out 15 of these cars in hi sbasement.

Well my Mk1 Midget & Mk2 sprite both came to me with the vinyl covered aluminum - no padding.

On my 58 bugeye I covered my front piece with the vinyl in the interior kit. Then lightly soda blasted the other three pieces to remove the anodizing and scratches, followed by powder coating with a natural aluminum color which closely resembles the original anodized color. All in all not too expensive around $120. I will try to post a pic later.

Do you think you could secure the trim piece w/o having access to the screw head? Mine was a special head that due to it's square & thin head - locked in the channel. Tightened from behind.

I think your the only one who can answer this.

Good luck - all of the difficulties in not being there.

George

I actually just picked some screws up at Lowes that fit into the camfer nicely, but thats a bugeye. I think the original sprite book describes how it all went together on the later cars. I will dig the book out and check.
