Cockpit Surround Molding

Previous owner installed the cockpit surround molding across the face of the dash cowling; hence, no dashpad. Did the early cars leave this area body color or cover in some way? If no covering, what did they do about the windshield defrost openings? Thanks for your help!

Not sure if they would fit but the 100's, which did not have any padding, have a sort of trim ring left and right which dress the vents.
 
The 100-6 and early 3000 did have the defroster trim pieces that mounted above the padded dash. They should work without the padding. They were painted to match the vinyl color.
 
i will order the defrost molding as pictured in the above sent by steve. thanks for the help!!!
