My nephew spotted a Cobra in NYC yesterday. It was having trouble starting but when it did start, the noise was ear-splitting. He sent me a picture of the engine. It appears to have 8 separate air cleaners. Could this be 8 separate carburetors? No wonder it wouldn't start. I'll try to post the picture he sent me - but I doubt I can do it.

Yes it is possible. All types of carbs were done on this car from two 4-bbls, three 2 bbls, to the Offenhauser style 8 single carbs.

Probably a stack fuel injection system. Pretty common Cobra fuel system and looks the business:

with air cleaners:

Four weber carbs is the most common set up, especially on the 289 FIA cars.....Have one in the shop at the moment.

It never cease's to amaze me seems ever single cobra I see is always slightly if not radiically different under the hood.
seems only thing common is excessive horsepower.
and I mean that in a good way. Very cool pictures.
