T-Series Clutch/Transmission Rattle/Chatter?

Hello all. I was hoping to get some advice (again).

While doing some spring tune-up work on the TD this afternoon, I noticed that there is a slight rattle or chatter coming from the clutch/transmission area while the car is idling in neutral.

The sound disappears if you push in the clutch, but comes back when you release it.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any advice!

could be the throw out bearing , or an input or countershaft bearing.
Could be a lot of other things but these would be my prime suspects.

While Banjo is right about it likely being the throwout bearing, it could just been some aging loose parts. A buddy's TD makes the same noise...always has and probably will for a long time until it really needs something. Unless it is really bad, you might just want to think of it as "character" and let it go. If it is the throwout bearing, you will know soon enough /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Does is also make a similar noise when being driven? if not it is likely not the throwout, but other parts. I was sure my thowout bearing was going out because of a rattle like that for while in one of my jeeps...until one day a bad bump made the ashtry support drop out of the bottom of the dash...and no more rattle /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Good luck!
