Hate to be the one to break the bad news Tony, Dennis Wilson passed away in 1983, Carl Wilson in 1998.

Adam, congrats on the license. And congrats on having an LBC at 16, you've got lots of great fun ahead.

Chuck, go ahead and load up the Righteous Brothers, Bobby would have wanted it that way. Just do Jenny a favor and don't sing along at stoplights.

PC...you're correct...time flys & we forget.....someone once said a person is remembered for about 15 years after their death

Adam, Glad to hear of another teenager that drives an MGB. About 9 months after my 16 birthday I got a '74 MGB that needed a total restoration. It has been my daily driver for 3+ years.

About your problem with it grinding into reverse I would try reving it up a little (1500 rpm) and see if it makes it easier. Remeber that reverse is non-syncromesh in these cars. You can reduce the grinding while downshifting by double clutching, which means matching the speed of the engine with the transmission before you engage the car into a lower gear.

For example:

You are driving the car and the engine is turning 3000 rpm in 4 gear. To match the engine speed with the transmission to easily engage into 3 gear you would have to rev the engine with the clutch in to about 4000 rpm then select 3 gear and release the clutch.

Guys....Adam came by this morning...he's got one sweet little Green '79 MGB! &, chuck & I both drove it....nothing wrong with tranny that an oil change won't stop...I could speed shift it at red line & you'd never feel it when it changed....congrats on the new car, Adam!

Tony,

I can just hear what poor Adam was thinking when he heard you speed shifting at the redline:

"That old man is going to blow up my brand new car! What am I going to tell my Dad?"

actually Adam was having a ball, and said something about Tony not driving it hard enough. I took it easy on him

Adam had no problem with us old guys throwing his new car about - but he never let it our of his sight! &, he was really wanting to know lots about its potential...his dad seems awfully receptive to Adam doing his own thing...but, you could see he's still in charge in a quiet way....kid'll go far, we need more like him in the hobby...
...chuck: you've gotta get a GT for the daughter so she'll have room for that big baritone instrument! She said she wants an MG - & she now has her license also!

Tony I got 3 projects in line right now and that Chrysler Laura bought is gonna be a monster. I'm good for about 10 years. have you ever thought about using that roadster for a GRM car?

i have another question now. i was acelerating to 40 yesterday and i was going about 35 in 3rd then i shifted it to 4th and i let the clutchout all the way. it was like the car was still in neutral ad when ever i gave it gas the engine just reved up with out the car moving. i had to press the clutchdown a few times for it to catch. what happened? oh and i'm changing fluid this afternoon

I knew it, Adam, I just knew it!!! You shouldn't have let Tony drive your car! It was all that speed shifting at the red line.
All kidding aside, are you sure it was all the way into gear? Sometimes when I think I've pulled the stick back far enough, I really haven't, and have to re-engage the gear properly. After I quickly look around and see if anyone saw me goof. It's possible that your clutch hung up in the released position, I suppose, but I can't ever remember that happening to me.
My suggestion, is go ahead and change the fluid if you want, bleed it thoroughly, and then take it out for a nice, long, leisurely test drive.

must be nice to sleep in. weekends are the only time I have to work on the B and I have to fix Jenny's computer this afternoon

Can't believe there's anything wrong with that tranny....chuck & I gave it a good look-see....change the fluid to Castrol 20W50, check the fluid level in master cylinder (though Don did & said there was nothing wrong there), take the shifter boot off & check the tightness of the 3 bolts holding the shifter into its socket.....12:40, man, I've already done more since 7am than chuck will do all day!
