TR6 Clutch Replacement

As mentioned in a previous thread I'm thinking of replacing my clutch. I have done some research on the web, and read the stuff at Buckeye Triumph.

The current clutch in my car is the Laycock unit with the RHP bearing.

It looks like there is considerable wear on the fingers:

Does this wear indicate that the RHP bearing is due for replacement?

The fork looks almost new, and has a pin in it, so I'm not going to replace it:

I have owned the car for 22 years and during that time I've not done any work to the clutch, but from the above it looks like the fork was replaced somewhere along the line and maybe the release bearing as well. This would have been done prior to 95, as that's when I purchased the car.

Does the ware on the fingers indicate that the release bearing needs to be replaced, or is it just typical wear for a clutch with 80K miles on it? How can I tell if the release bearing needs to be replaced?

I am looking for a light clutch pedal (due to lots of stop and go traffic and arthritis) and so I'm thinking of getting the Sach clutch possibly with the Toyo release bearing. I'd like to hear opinions on this combination.

Thanks

Todd

With 80k miles on it, it is always a good idea to replace the release bearing and the input shaft pilot bearing while you're in that far.

And replace that rear seal on the engine and front on the Transmission.
That pressure plate is about to make a lot of noise if not replaced.

Gentlemen, thanks for your input...

I will be checking the end float of the crankshaft as soon as I get a hold of a dial gauge.

I'm leaning toward the Sach clutch but not sure about the release bearing. Whats the general consensus about the koyo release bearing?

Also where does the pilot shaft bearing go? I don't see it anywhere in the Bently manual.

Thanks

rooster, where the input shaft goes into the hole in the crank at the back of the engine is a brass bushings, that is called the pilot bushing. Not easy to get out, but that's a different story. If you get it in with the rest of the kit for the clutch, put it in some thin oil right away and let it soak until you are ready for it.
