Clutch replacement on BJ8

Country flag
Offline
Hate to sound like a dummy but I have never had to do it but you can replace the clutch in a BJ8 just like you would in a Triumph? Just pull trans out from inside the car?

You do have the added complication of that center console bit over the tunnel.

I took my passenger seat out to do mine on my BJ7 and passed the trans out through the passenger door and onto a trolley.

Watch out for that accelerator spindle support into the bulk head when you lift the rear of the engine up - don't ask me how I discovered that!

Job done, well almost. Have to put seats and console back in. Wasn't that bad. More room to work than the Triumphs. Trans is lot heavier, I just easied it out to the left of cockpit , replaced clutch and slide it back in place. Took about 4 hours to remove and replace. About an hour, maybe two to finish with seats. Going to do some deep cleaning while apart. Glad its this far done.

Yes sir! Plenty of meat left. Clutch pressure plate weak, would not release. Apparently cheap aftermarket. Good clutch now. Releases a good 2" from floor.
