Clutch/Pressure plate...which one?

Is your car using a datsun clutch and pressure plate? If so, then talk to Paul Asgeirsson <PAsgeirsson@worldnet.att.net>

If it is using a custom clutch, then you need to contact www.rivergate5speed.com and see if it is their setup.
 
If your flywheel has been redrilled for a housing, then it is probably a Datsun clutch you need.

You have someone selling you a rebuilt engine and you are turning yours in as a core?

Why are you not having yours rebuilt?
 
I know, I know... I've been beat up by you guys already on another thread...I have two, small, demanding, children and I'm limited on time. Not sure I have the skills/confidence to do this without some technical support....someone to work with. I've been working with Dug on a replacement engine. I need a quick fix for this, not something lying around my shop for months. Dug is doing the compression and leak-down tests on his engine. If it's good, I'll go with it...if not, then I'll give rebuilding a shot. If that doesn't work, look for lots of parts on ebay....

I just wanted to be sure you were not having someone random sell you a rebuilt engine.

However, it can be affordable to have a reputable engine builder rebuild your engine with "uprated" specs.
 
There are probably some local builders that would do a good job for a bit less money, but in reality the parts and machine shop labor are the most expensive aspects of an engine build.
 
I emailed Paul and he was very willing to help me identify my clutch and components. Thanks for the tip. I just pulled the motor/trans out all by myself... WOW, was that simple! I guess my hesitance in rebuilding is all the tolerances and measurements that need to be accurate. It's not as simple as just tearing things apart and putting them together again. If that were the case, I'd do it. Anyone know of a shop in the Seattle area that can rebuild a short block for a decent price? I'd like to keep the option open pending Dug's testing of his motor.
 
OK, so this goes against every grain in my body, but I have to ask. I pulled the pressure plate and clutch disk off and found little to no wear whatsoever on them. The flywheel still had the cross-cuts from being resurfaced... any opinions on re-using these parts? Don't know what happened to this poor little car to make the engine fail like it did. It appears that some very recent work was done on it....
 
Is the clutch disc solid or does it have coil springs in the body. If sprung, see if you can turn any of the springs. If you can scrap it. If you have any doubts take it to a competent machine shop and he can check the friction material depth above the rivets and spring condition...
