After 55000 miles the '74BGT must get a new clutch. The question is...Can I just remove the engine and install a new clutch or will I feel it necessary to replace 32 year old engine and gearbox seals that do not leak? Can I ignore the dirty engine compartment so I can drive it to the Sushi Bar tonight? I promised myself that the first MGB that needed the engine removed would get the 1900cc flat-top uprated engine that has been sitting on the stand for three years. Will I drive it tonight? This would not be an issue if the GT did not have air conditioning....but it does. It has the last of the York piston compressors that can be used in lieu of brakes. The system cools the inside of the car nicely so I cannot justify changing it to a Sanyo compressor. On a plus note , the engine has never been out of this car so every nut and bolt should be correct.
Enough said....I'm going to work.
