clutch cross shaft fit

After replacing the cross shaft bushes with the wider TR4 and refurbishing my clutch cross shaft I've test fitted the unit. There is a certain snugness in fit. What are other's experience here? Should the shaft fit loosely in the bushes or should it be snug?

It shouldn't 'bind' or be so tight at to possibly gall the bushes, but it shouldn't be 'loose' either. Couple of thou clearance at least. Pro'lly 0.005~7" max.

I installed the wider bushes as well as
a TR4A cross shaft into my TR6.

Yes, the bushes are a bit tight at first
but a little grease smoothes them right out.

I like the grease fittings on the TR4A cross
shaft ends.

Hope this helps,

d

Tinster,
That sounds exactly like my status. The shaft is snug, it does not bind and I haven't yet greased the bushes. I've contemplated the TR4A cross shaft conversion or else drilling my TR6 shaft and installing grease fittings.

I had TRF TR6 cross shaft and the local machinists
wanted more $$ to machine the TR6 into a TR4A shaft
than I paid for the entire Magic clutch assembly.

I purchased a TR4A cross shaft from Moss and am
very glad I did.

You could also polish about 1 1/2 inches on both ends
of your cross shaft to make them a bit smoother.

And don't forget to reinforce the shaft with an additional
grade #8 thru-bolt.
