Cloth interior in AH-3000? Was it ever fitted? Pleated inserts maybe?

Curiosity question. Did any AH-3000's ever come fitted with a cloth interior, or any Healey for that matter? Maybe more specifically with cloth inserts in the pleated area. Numerous German and other cars of that and later eras (Porsche 911) came with vinyl bolsters with cloth pleated inserts.

I cannot find any documentation if a Healey ever had anything other than vinyl or leather anywhere on the seats or interior panels.

I suspect the answer is no, but has anyone performed blasphemy and tastefully done an interior in cloth or with cloth inserts?

We are about to sew up a leather interior for our BJ8 and just start wondering what the seats would look like with leather outers (bolsters, etc) and a traditional English tweed cloth comprising the pleated sections.

Just wondering??

Hi JJS,

I have never read or observed a Big Healey with tastefully and permanently installed fabric in the interior other then home made seat slip covers or towels, sown or thrown to cover deteriorated seats. In 1983, I remember seeing a BJ8 that had the seats pleated as original with the same woven vinyl used in the '67/'68 Ford Mustang. The owner, if I remember correctly, had the covers made to replace badly warn originals, thinking the weave would be cooler and still resistant to spills and other wear issues.

I have seen a BJ8 with corduroy inserts, probably done up many years ago to mirror what Porsche was doing with some 356 C's. Personally I do not care for the look on either car. Have no idea if it came with the seats done up like it is currently but doubt it. Certainly have never read of it being a standard from Healey. I would stay with the ambla vinyl or go with leather.

Thanks for the confirmations-no cloth. It was a curiosity question more than anything. Not that we are going to do that, that but we do have some beautiful English herringbone material that would in other cars look fabulous surround by some leather or vinyl, but not in a Healey. Will stick with leather.

Thanks
