TR4/4A Closing the Soft Top

Is there a proper way to close the soft top on a TR4A without the two little rear side windows being bent and damaged? It seems to me there must be a way that they are “supposed” to be folded as the top mechanism folds and recedes into place.

I should’ve thought to look! Procedure couldn’t be more clear. My beautiful wife used to say that if the matter at issue is easy, or requires common sense, I'm in trouble.

Thanks Tom.

Very Nice Tom. I have never seen a TR4 manual before and it has information I do not remember reading about; however, it has been a while since I read a TR3 manual

Okay, here's a related question. I could use a new tonneau cover, but, instead, I'm considering simply a new "Cover." Far less expensive. However, I can't tell how the top "Cover" is secured from under the forward flap. Snapping it on the snaps and lift-the-dots is simple, but the forward flap blows in the wind unless secured. Though I'm seeing two straps, they appear to go nowhere, and the manual doesn't adequately address the issue. The manual mentions fastening to the straps on the cover's underside to their "respective fastener" in the back of the well behind the seats. Maybe I'm just really old now, but I'm not seeing anything I'd call a "fastener" in the back of the well behind the seats. Any idea what they're talking about?

What is this “cover” you are referring to? I have not heard of alternates to tonneau covers… but am all for saving $!

It’s a small vinyl cover that just extends from the rear snaps to a few inches beyond the “properly folded” top. But then, as I’m indicating, there’s a need to fold the front edge down under the top and folded rack so it doesn't blow around. I’ll send a pic.

Here's a pic of the "Cover." It's pretty cool, but I'm figuring out how to fasten that middle section hanging down.

That's a "hood stick cover". Many guys just let that middle section hang down loosely, if there's no convenient place to hook or snap it.

I thought you wanted something to cover the whole car!

On my cover, that flap that hangs down has two snap buttons on the left and right sides that are pressed onto the studs mounted just inboard of the inner wheelwell...take a look at these two photos. But as Tom said, the flap can just hang down if preferred.
