I think it’s applicable to most if not all tr2-6

does anyone have any experience of the close ratio box.
I am trying to work out if there could be any benefits to my sprints and hillclimb but very concerned that the high 1st would ruin my currently good starts.
I don’t do circuit racing and most of my courses are tight and twisty ( you’ve seen my videos!) 2nd takes a battering too.

I believe I have the Early tr6 ratios ( yellow)

and the Close Ratio is the dolomite (green)

For those interested I run a 4.1 diff

and 185/55x15 tyres so my terminal speed are very low

I just don’t know the characteristics of the CR gear cluster

Can you shed any light on it?

I have not run the British close ratio, but my experience with the muncie is that the main reason for close ratio is less about performance, and more about reducing the stress on the box. The higher the mechanical advantage between the input gear and counter gear, the more stress is placed on the box. A close ratio simply reduces the input to counter gear ratio, which reduces the torque multiplication, and thereby the stress. In other words...I personally think it is marketing hype to give a reason the big horsepower cars require less ratio to keep the box alive, rather than saying "our tranny's are too weak to take a full ratio spread?!?"
