Climate Control

I have a 96 XJS Celebration. It's cold in England at the moment, but I just tried the A/C to keep it working. It didn't appear to make the air cooler. Is there an ambient temperature cut off? (I had feature like that in a Merc before)

Thanks,

Lawrence

i believe you'll have trouble getting the a/c to cut in unless the temperture calls for it. i have a 94 xjs and while i understand the desire to have the a/c operate to keep the seals from drying out, etc. i have never had a problem along those lines. however, that said there has been an occasional problem with the internal flaps that open and close to direct the warm/cold air in the system. i am told they are driven by small electric motors which sometimes decide not to operate properly. when that happens switching the system from "cold" to "hot" works to free them at times. otherwise a trip to the shop may be necessary. i'll close by saying this occured two or three times the first year i had the car, but luckilly hasn't since. my guess is that you'll be o.k. even not running the air for 6 months or so.

I agree with waiting for warmer weather, The climate control has a mind of its own and sometimes it has to be hit in the head (experience exteme variations in temperature) to get back to a control mode.
