If she hasn't yet, she should check out Blender. A 3D animation program that is open source. Download it for free. There are a bunch of tutorials around, some on Youtube. I have versions for Windows and Linux, I think they have one for Mac too, but I won't swear to it. Here's a little something I made after about 30 hours of fiddling.
