Clearly visible timing marks

Dale was asking about the timing marks on a damper. This is the result of too much time to think of things to do when the damper was off the car.

This requires removing all paint from the outer surface, washing with acetone, applying the tape in exactly the right position relative to TDC, letting it set and then applying multiple coats of clear to protect it.

Also, applying it in the proper direction helps as well.

Paul,
Very nice, I think you made your British car happy! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Paul, why are your marks in increments of 10 (metric) and mine are in increments of 4 (whatever).

He's Ivy League. They use METRIC degrees, yours is in British Standard degrees. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Paul used some add on tape for his marks. Hot Rod style.

British Standard degrees or BSD's; haha Brilliant!

Bill,

I did use timing tape, Mr. Gasket #1594, which we found to be nearly exact in the spacing as the damper had engraved. It may be off by one degree at 30 degrees, but that won't matter much in the grand scheme of things. It looks great when you are setting the timing with the strobe on the black and gold lettering.

I do like that nice red timing cover on yours though!

I just refurbished my fan blade after a wet sanding with 600 paper and 4 coats of Krylon Fusion for plastic spray paint. No more faded orange color and it looks like new.
