Cleaning Painted Wire Wheels

I acquired my TR3B in the last month, and have not yet tackled a good cleaning of the wire wheels. I do not know how they were painted, or when this was done. What are some recommendations for cleaning and maintaining these wheels?

For general cleaning I use Auto Glym wheel cleaner and a Black Magic nylon brush. For really grimy wheels I break out the simple green. I found a great selection of brushes at Pep Boys. Just be sure there is no exposed metal (like on the Moss wheel cleaning brush) because it will scratch the wheel paint. Plastic is good, coated metal can be better because it's thinner.
