cleaning my seats

question on my Midget seats. I just removed them to clean them easier, and to also clean the carpets.

they are the 1974 brownish/tan seats, and the vinyl was made to look like leather, the vinyl has stress lines, or a pattern to look like leather would.

now those leather impression lines are dark, like they are filled with dirt. is it supposed to look like that? or is it dirt, that I need to get cleaned up? I think it almost looks natural to have the dark lines, or dirt.

how did the come from the factory? all 1 solid color? or with darker lines to look like leather? should I keep cleaning? I can't seem to get it any cleaner, which is making me think it should look like it does.

I'm not even sure how to express what I'm trying to say, but does any of what I said make sense?

Sounds like autumn leaf interior?

Go to a boat store and get vinyl cleaner and restorer there are several. 3M and Maguires both have good products that clean and restore the fabric.

I've had good luck with Tuff Stuff in the past, aerosol foaming stuff.

And a tooth brush.

a brush is the part I was missing.

I've been scrubbing with a sponge, and while it is working, it is sloooow going.

will get a brush for the second seat.

another question. while my seats are soft and have no tears, my headrests are rock hard. is it possible to restore vinyl? making it soft again?

thanks everyone for your tips, I can't wait to see how she looks all cleaned up.

so I have the seats out and I start cleaning the inside of the car. there was dirt from 1974 there !!

while cleaning I removed the carpet to be able to clean it easier, and underneath I found some interesting things. it looks like when the car was painted at the factor, they didn't cleanup to well before painting, there was a screw, painted blue, except for the part that was lying on the floor. and there was also vinyl clippings from the trim on the carpet scattered around.

finally there was an inspection sticker under the carpet as well. I have found 3 inspections throughout the car so far, pretty neat.

can't wait to see what I find on the other side !!
