NEVR-DULL has been my mainstay for alloy polishing for decades. Great stuff. #000 steel wool as a start if it's really heavy oxidation, then polish with the "magic wadding". Aircraft industry stuff. I've a 2-pound tin of it here, from looong ago. Still works fine.
What about polishing Magnesium? I'm pretty certain my 70's vintage American Racing Spector Wheels are Magnesium, and they are in need of some clean-up and polishing.
