Reminds me of the time I was actually rear-ended by a Mac-Truck Semi while in my 1990 Corvette. Impact speed was probably only 10 MPH but it completely destroyed the rear-end of my Vette.

Mass over speed wins out
And on that same thought.... I wonder how loaded the truck was in those braking tests?

Did you notice the arresting hook deployed from the rear of the truck? :rolleye:

They didn't say that part.
They're going to dig bars in the road every 20 feet for the hooks to attach to

I ship 10 semi loads of product a day..... Max weight in a trailer for cargo is 40,000 pounds (20 tons). Total truck weight is based on the rig's empty weight so that number can flex. Heavier trucks like a refridge unit are heavier empty and will carry less.

All I could think about as those brakes kicked in was the moving mass of product in the trailer and the damage claim I would have to submit! It would be a mess in that trailer.

They forgot the disclaimer -
"No Volvos were injured in the making of this video"

Best man at my wedding told me the first Corvette story.....back in 69. He'd been in a Mickey D's in Sandy Eiggo, big old Buick stopped at the stop sign, Corvette rear-ended him. crinkle-crinkle-crinkle as the cracks moved backwards. Corvette driver gets out, drags the Buick driver out of his car and starts smacking him around (no idea why), when this big early 50's Cadillac with Dagmars hits the rear of the Corvette. Crinkle, crinkle, crinkle from the rear, then (his words) Ka-DOOSH! and all the crinkled fibreglas bits fell onto the ground.
Guy stops whacking the Buick driver, looks at the metal bits left of his Corvette, as the leaking fuel ignites and the pile of fibreglas goes up in flames.
Ah, the safety of fibreglas!

I see they had to test the system with a paper vehicle first....and the second one didn't stop.
Hope MicroSoft didn't write the software.
"Collision Avoidance System has encountered a problem and will now close. Do you wish to send a report to MicroSoft?" CRASH.

Very effective...

Volvo uses the same technology in their cars. The technology Package includes this very feature together with things like adaptive cruise control and pedestrian detection, also with full auto brake. City Safety (collision warning with full auto-brake but at speeds of 18mph or less) is standard on most Volvos.

It's high-tech stuff and it definitely works!
