I only thought my car was clean.
I have never used clay before. Really didn't even know it was out there until a friend told me about it recently. The whole concept around clay is to use the tacky clay to strip your car's top coat of contaminates, ground in debris, etc., most of which you can't even see. But if you were to gently rub your hand on the surface you would probably feel.
There are several makers of clay for finishing your car.
the ones I looked at were Meguiars & Mothers.
I went with Mothers, as the clay bars were larger & Mothers has a great reputation.
Very easy to use:
1) wash & dry your car.
2) knead the clay into a flat, palm size piece. (NOTE: don't drop it or set it down on anything, you don't want it to pick up contaminates before you put it to work on your car).
3) mist on a spray lubricant/detailer (supplied with the clay) on a manageable area (3'x3')
4) gently slide the clay over the area in straight back and forth pattern.
You will feel it picking junk up as a gentle tug....then after you have cleaned one area, the clay slides freely over the lub. sprayed area.
5)Wipe and polish the area with a extra clean micro fiber towel.
6) fold the clay in on itself & knead into a flat piece again.
I was surprised at how much crud came off with the clay & how nice my paint looked afterwards.
one bar was enough to do my entire car.
I saved the rear wing aluminum stone protectors for last, as I knew they would be dirtiest.
The last step is a Meguiar M7 glaze & a final coat with Meguiar NXT finishing wax.

(the clay will pick up loads of stuff , especially off the lower sections of the body, you just fold it into itself and use the bar until you have no more clean surface)
