Chroming the Bugeye grille -$850??

I got a ballpark estimate from Advanced Plating in Tennessee (who I think do good work) for $850 for re-chroming my Bugeye grille. Well, that's not in the budget! Wonder how paint would look... Jim

You can buy good used for a fraction of that price or a new one. When I had mine done it cost $40 just a few years ago. Is it badly pitted or something? That seems badly out of line!

Kurt.

I had my grille chromed by Chrome Rite in Fayetteville, NC for around $300. They have chromed several parts for my cars and do an excellent job. They are known from Florida to the Carolinas and will ship parts.

I'll keep them in mind when I need those upper rear bumper braces done.

As for grill costs...given the chroming costs I had quoted...
I opted for a new one from AH Spares.
It wasn't cheap but it is well made. Nice chrome.
I'm glad I did it.

Jack and I used Knox Custom Chrome in Knoxville. They did a great job on all my chrome parts including the grill. I'll look for the receipt but I believe the grill was less than $100.

Ray, please do update on this one and if you have a telephone number for them even better.

I sent you a PM to who does the chrome for all the restorations for my aunt and her husbands restoration business.
for a little eye candy....

Hopefully he will be spraying my bugeye when the time comes.

Knox Custom Chrome prices for the parts they did for me.

Bumper $180
Front overriders $45 each
Rear overriders (bumperettes) $60 each
Grill $180
E-brake handle $45
Dash handle $45

Thanks for all the helpful information. I always feel that if a vendor gives that high an estimate, they must have all the work that they can do. Maybe some of these other companies are more reasonable. Jim

Could not have been more happy with these guys work.

I still have not used my Alsa chrome paint. It is supposed to have 97% of the shine of real chrome. I want to test this on something. Maybe if I managed to get down there and get that bugeye nose from coastalman.

Kim: Let me know how the chrome paint works when you use it. I was thinking about using that for a bike I was painting, but went with something else instead. Jim
