Is there such a thing as a plastic wrap with a "chrome" appearance?

Something you can press down on a part, to hide the pitted/scratched chrome surface that previous owner "painted" to cover up?

Basically, "Saran Wrap" with a shiny chrome appearance.

Randall - thanks. I'd never known about that.

How do you think it would work on an MGTD gas filler cap? - something more three dimensional than the chrome strips and areas on model cars. Seems it would need a good amount of flexibility.

I've never worked with the stuff; no idea. Seems like it might be worth a try, though. Worst case, strip it back off and you haven't lost much.
 
You can buy chrome look spray paint too - some looks pretty good
 
I sent my question to the Bare-Metal website; we'll see what they say about using the foil on a 3D object like the fuel filler cap.

JP - good point about the aerosols. I tried about six of them several years ago to see how realistic they are. Actually all six came out looking more like a satin silver or aluminum surface. Definitely not the appearance of chromed surface.

Tom, doesn't your cap have a stainless cover? If it is, as mine is, a power polisher/buffer will do wonders for those caps with the proper grit like julers rouge. Mine is on a TF, but they look exactly the same to me. I spent quite a bit of time polishing mine and it came out looking very nice. PJ

Eastwood has a paint combination that looks like chrome. Krome Colors paint. I would polish first. If you use wrap, use a heat gun to force around the cap. (taking cap of first, of course)
