Chrome or stainless rivet source?

I need a source for chrome or stainless steel rivets for my Bugeye and TR6 headlight rims. Does anyone have a source for these?
Thanks, Kevin

Kevin, I can go to https://www.spaenaur.com Spaenaur tomorrow - they have everything if you can tell me what you want. They have every kind of rivet imaginable. If you can post a pic &/or dimensions I can get you a dozen or so. They have round, flat or countersunk top, as well as tinners rivets, stainless pop rivets, .

1/8 3/16 5/32(some) 1/4 5/16 3/8 diameter, length, 3/16, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 etc. etc.

here's the thing, I will be leaving about 9-9:30 Eastern Standard time, so, if you can get the info to me in time, I'm happy to pick it up and mail it to you.

my email is johnpetersmit"at"yahoo.com if you need to email a pic.

let me know

JP

Jesh, what we need is rivets the right size for top straps. Will try to measure them and photo and see what we get. Each BE takes 4 isn't that awful.

In fact I will try to identify the correct item with their part number, I hope.

I think this will be too late, JP, but I will list the info anyway. I don't know much about rivets, but it looks like I need rivets to go through a 3/32" hole, and be able to secure a thickness of 1/16". The head is 3/16"
Kevin

OK, my sprite is not stock, but where are rivets used for the headlight rims?

On my TR6 they hold a clip to the headlight rim that fastens the rim to the bucket. On my Bugeye, there is a hole at the top of the rim that it goes through. I never could understand the purpose of it, other that maybe that was a hole used to suspend the rim during the chroming process.
Kevin

OK. Thanks.

A Bugeye headlight rim has a rivit in the top of the rim. No use for it but it is there. Fake ones have a dimple pressed in the rim. real ones the rivit.

Here is the info on the top strap rivits for storage of the top.

Spaenaur Product

Solid Steel Rivits

4 each required

Head 5/16
Length 1/4 or 5/16

Part number for 1/4 in. 291-177

Part number for 5/16 in. B-1675

I think I will see about ordering some of each, I have the old buckles and strap ends and new webbing.

Should be an intresting job.

I went to Fastenal for my rivets when I did the buckets for my TR6. I got stainless ones and in the grip range needed. Pretty inexpensive and even though I bought 100 or so of each they are nice to have on hand.

One other thing, I tried to use a hand operated rivet tool and it just did not get then tight. Finally I got my air/hydraulic gun out and started the air compressor. That made all the difference. It sucked them tight. I also suggest using rivet washers on the backside if you can.

This is what I used but there are much cheaper ones. Better yet see if you can borrow one. https://www.menintools.com/marsonm4.html

Jack, do you have the measurements for the old buckles? Thanks for the info, Tom. I will look up the info you posted when I get home. I see you were using blind rivets, Tom, so how were you able to get close enough to attache the rivet?
Kevin

Spaenaur is in our backyard, same town as where my daughter goes to school - so, I'm there pretty regularly. I can easy buy a box of 100 and break it up and ship it off if you want. (and yes, sorry, Kevin, too late for today)

Hi JP. I have looked around for a number of hours and not found what I needed. I would like to take you up on your offer. Let me know how much and where to send money.
Kevin

Here is a pic.

Note the metal tip on the end of the strap.

And a second one.
And that folks is a WWII Brit buckle. it is1 1/2 inch ear to ear outside and 1 3/4 in. long end of ear to end of ear.

Looks like the rivets may have been chrome plated long ago.

Anything else?

Happy to do it - I presume that you don't want 100 - how many do you want? (if they sell them separately)

Also, folks, does anyone else want any of this stuff?

And, just to clarify, we are talking two different sizes of rivets - the size Jack mentions (for the straps) and the size Kevin wants for the trim ring. Is this correct? And, Kevin wants Chrome or stainless, but, Jack, you don't actually want any do you? and the ones you listed are steel.

Round head?

thanks

Actually they should be Truss head and Chrome plated or stainless 1/8 dia. 5/16 long, with head 5/16 dia.

If this is what you find I will be pleased to pay what ever for about 8. I already have new cloth straping, no clue how I will remove and put the metal ends on. Must be a way.

Thanks J-P

JP, I sent you a PM before I saw your last post. I looked at the site, and they don't sell less than a hundred. It is unbelievable at the variety of hardware they carry-thanks for tipping me off about this company. Even though your offer is appreciated, I figure I might as well order it myself since I will have to order the box and will be getting the tool too. With all those extra rivets, maybe I will be able to help someone else out down the line.
Kevin

So, to top off this conversation, both Jack and Kevin have their orders winging their way to their respective homes. But, was filling out the custom's form at the post office, you have to tell them what the contents are, I said "rivets" Woman writes it down, looks up and asks, "what's a rivet?" was wearing jeans so I could show her. My first (inner) response was, harrumph, "kids these days don't know what a rivet is." Course a sober second thought was, "why would they?"
