So I pulled the trigger on having my bumpers straightend and plated. $1210 for both bumpers and four guards plus $96 hazardous material fee. And I thought my guitar habit was spendy

Chose this place as it is in state and close enough not to have to ship. I can see that the longer I stay here the more I will spend.

From all that I read and investigated I wouldn't have been happy with the after market pieces. Really only $300 or so difference.
 
brand new ones aren't as good as rechromed originals, if the chrome is done well
 
Yes, nicely chromed pieces are really fabulous, but prices have gone through the roof. Jim

Don't know about 50. I've heard that wholesale hair removal can run into two or three thousand. Plus the chrome plating :jester:

And I've heard that wholesale hair re-location costs several thousand dollars. :cryin: Seems as more goes, it appears in places it ought not.

You know, Erik, it occurs to me that those babies (valued now as they are) might be swiped! A neighbor of mine had all new COPPER gutters and downspouts put on, and I figure they'll be stolen for metal resale (given I understand that copper grounding wires on most utility poles have been stolen in recent years). As you may know, in Oregon they've tried to implement a tracking system at metal recyling centers. Moral? Keep an eye on those bumpers, baby. :laugh:
 
I think my wife plans to build a room in the house for the car. Seriously, we have people here that throw meatal into substaions to take the power down in order to have time to steal copper ground wire.

So far that has been the catch phrase for this whole project. At the beginning i would have had a stroke at spending that amount for the bumpers but we decided that we are only doing this once and we may as well get it right the first time!

I stripped and sold some wire I'd had laying around for twenty years or so. Quikest $220 I have ever made. I did have to wait three days for the check :cooler:

I've got a bunch of wire around here, maybe I should look into it.

When I was young my stepfather was a lineman and he would regularly have bonfires and toss in rolls of wire at home in the back yard.
Once the fire died down we would collect the wire and he would head off and sell it. Probably illegal on many fronts, but I was a kid then and he's dead now so Bob's your uncle.
