chrome bumper conversion

I've got an opportunity to pick up a '78 MGB for probably $2500. The car is a rust-free driver, but needs a top & seat covers. If I bought it, I was thinking of installing the Moss Motors chrome bumper conversion kit, & repainting the valence. Does anyone have experience installing this kit? Would it make any real difference in the value of the car? Your thoughts are appreciated. Bob H.
 
Doesn't change value of car, IMO....never used their kit, I just did everything myself off old cars....if you do a conversion, don't forget to lower the car to chrome bumper specs.
 
Bob , Do the words rust free and Ohio put together appear a bit odd? Is there a section on this forum for jokes? Best of luck if you purchase it! I had a buddy with a 77 MGB that lowered it with blocks in the rear and just springs in the front. It had a very odd steering feel. Other than being a bit more electricly challanged a 78 B could be a very nice working car with just a carb and exhaust manifold swap. If you want a chrome bumper MGB they are out there and a better way to go than a bumper conversion and proper lowering and carb swap and electirical issues! Plus the end value is better if one day resale happens. That said I would take a REAL rust free rubber bumper car over a northern chrome bumper former rust bucket. I hope you get a good one! Bob
 
I agree. 'specially about th' Ohio/rust-free part. It would have to have been stored in winter and well pampered.

If that's the case, converting it to CB (properly) would be diminishing the resale value IMO, after spending a LOT of time and money to accomplish the task.

If you've "flipping" it in mind, just: "snag it, sort it, sell it." If keeping it as a driver, substitute "DRIVE it" for "sell it."
 
Thanks for your input. I agree that you have to examine an Ohio car carefully, but there are many cars up here that have been stored winters, and remain rust-free. Your comments are well-taken. I won't bother trying to convert this car. I emailed the owner an offer of $1,000. If he takes it, I'll have a good laugh, and the TR6 will have a stable-mate.
