Afraid the pic does not even show how bad it really is. all four corners if you can call em that are worn out of oval and thin as a razor. The lip is really gone.
Just been loking at en expoded diagram of the gearbox on ahspares, and guess which is the only part not numbered...
Isn't there a guy in Maryland with a really low mileage Sprite? Maybe someone could get his part, take some measurements and get some made up?
Pete, the one I just posted pictures of is from a perfectly functioning rib case, 1974, with 42,000 miles on the clock.
I don't know about making any, but I'll pull the dimensions, just in case.
Jeff
I just looked at the one that came off my ribcase (unknown vintage). It's similar, but that center hole is open on one end??? Am I looking at the wrong part?
Jack, if you want, I'll weld the edge that is slightly worn, toss it on the mill, and straighten it out for you. That will mean that I won't be sending it out until Thursday or Friday.
Jeff
Jack, looks like I may need one of these as well? Can't remember where the non-cutout piece went. Should have made better notes when I disassembled the MG.
Drew, it looks like someone didn't know how to remove the shifter, and cut the plate in a misguided attempt to do it.
Kind of a DPO move, eh?
I've no idea what's up with the gasket piece, unless that was an attempt to seal the opening.
Jeff
Here's another shot, with the non-cutout piece as well (goes under the cut piece, provides the proper spacing there).
It actually makes sense, since the diameter of the shift lever is quite wide right about the ball joint. This fat piece was for the later style vinyl shift boot, I think. Unless that fat bit comes off, the plate wouldn't be able to fit down the shift lever.
I'm planning on using the lever from my smooth case if I can, it's more fitting for the Bugeye.
I am curious -- does that fat bit on the shift lever come off somehow? Otherwise, there's not a way I can see to get the plate off. It sits on top of the ball, and the hole is smaller than the fat bit on the shifter.
Okay, here's the shifter that came with this tranny. I've marked where the plate goes. No way I can see for the notched plate to slide up the shifter shaft, not with the big snake-eating-a-rat bit that's right above where the plate goes.
Is this just a very late model version of the tranny? Some sort of strange pieced-jobbie? It was attached to a 1275... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
