Chopped Windshields?

Hey guys, few weeks ago I saw a british racing green BE with a chopped windshield and my jaw just dropped!

not sure if this has been discussed or not but has anyone here cut down the glass a few inches?

Does the window have to be replaced or can it be done with the original glass??

btw it was supercharged /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

I would think that any good auto glass place should be able to do this using the original glass... There's always the option of Brooklands screens, if you want something that's more easily returned to stock at a later date!

ain't the original chopped enough? That was like one of the first things I noticed about my MG- man that windshield is small!

Could be cool to pick up another windshield frame and do it. I seen the street rodders do them with with the top part of the windshield frame gone. Looks pretty cool.

thought of doing it myself. My plate glass guy sadi he could surely cut that sock window, I was going to cut and polish the frame myself. Still torn though. Dont know if I like to eat bugs yet?!

Sorry guys, unless I'm misinformed, you can't cut tempered glass after its tempered. The cut down ones I've seen use Lexan instead of glass.

The car referred to above did utilize Lexan (which by the way is VERY prone to scratching very easily!!). I saw the same BRG BE on ebay advertising the windscreen! They seemed to want an awful lot for that cut -down frame and piece of plastic, and I could not for the life of me understand the appeal! I mean it looked nice and all, and if you only drive in perfect weather it would be OK, but how would you put the top up on it?? Do you carry the top and another windshield in the trunk in case the weather turns for the worse?? Not too practical!

I vote that the windshild is small enough already. Go with the Brooklands if you want the unique Brit look. They are pretty cool.
