Rather than ask specifics about choke problems (at this time), I was wondering if there were some threads floating about pertaining to that? Dahubby is almost convinced now that my starting problems lay in the choke rather than the carb.

I tried doing a search, but didn't come up with anything.

This should help you out some. Fairly good site on the water choke with pictures. Rebuilding the choke is an easy job to perform but be aware that there are no new parts available for it but it can be bought new from moss but will cost mucho denero. I took the best from 2 used ones and rebuilt the one I have and it actually works like its should. https://www.paulbunyan.net/~jasko/choke/

I should add you can remove the choke unit without removing the carb from the car. But if your going to have your hubby fiddle with it you might as well have him rebuild the whole carb at the same time. Not hard to do and should cost under 30 dollars. Pulling the carb for the first time should take less than 30 minutes. When I was fighting my choke I got to the point where I could remove the carb in under 10 minutes. Less if the air filter assembly was already off.

Have a Stromberg carb. Side draft?

hmmm, I'm not good with Strombergs, but do you know if it has a water choke? If so I would have water lines from the coolant system hooked up to it.

Stromberg is a side draft with the waterchoke facing the front of the car. Looking from the front of the car the round piece with the 2 hoses runing into it would be the choke.

Does your carb leak gas down on to the air filter housing if it does rebuild carb, as for water choke mech tech in england has whole carbs and chokes on ebay fo around $80.00 new you can either replace the whole thing or just the choke a lot cheaper this way. hope this helps.

It isn't a water choke, it's a manual choke, and it doesn't leak gas onto the housing.
