Hi All
There are some bits missing from my choke mechanism....see photos
It's extremely difficult to work out from the AH catalogue what parts I need
Does anyone have a picture of a completed mechanism on the car so I can get a better idea
Alternatively a list of parts I can order
Ta....

Thanks Andrea, really helpful
I've checked to AH spares website and they show these parts....not quite sure if they are correct, especially the stirrup kit?

The "stirrup kit" is for the earliest Longbridge integral manifold 6-cylinder engines, not for the ones with a separate, detachable aluminum manifold with HD-6 carbs like your pictures show (as seen below).

Andre's pictures show the missing parts for your setup, including his last picture that shows the connecting rod between the two (2) carb jet levers; item #123 in the Moss Motors picture below:

Hi,
If you already have the correct cable, and the connecting rod is in place, you need a "trunnion assembly - part 378-618" and "trunnion and screw - part 378-648" in the Moss catalog. See their Engine and Performance section, and then "controls".
Good luck, Bob

Randy - thanks for sharing the photos of the Longbridge BN4 engine, with the heat shield painted the same color as the engine. However per the Concours Guide this heat shield should be painted red and not the engine color. Does anyone have any experience with the red heat shield on the Longbridge BN4?

thanks for sharing:driving:

I made a heat shield for my Longbridge BN4 not long ago. Here is a pic, before the red paint went on.

Red, probably was the right on 100/6 Longbridge at Abington ,on my opinion, it went to engine colors

It's been some years now, and I'm not able to produce irrefutable proof__at least without accessing some old hard drives__but I'm thinking my color choice for the heatshield was based on finding underlying layers of paint in the engine color shown.

I was very mindful of the engine color itself, as I've seen Longbridge engines way back when that were a dark blue, and I wanted to do this one correct. Again, the underlying remnants of paint told the story, and I believe the owner was doing his own research based on VIN, and we arrived at the same conclusion.

Randy - thanks for sharing, I just wish there could be some additional insight provided in the current concours guide which states that the heat shield has to be red. I must agree in all the Longbridge engines over the years I have never seen a red heat shield, but then again I am not a concours expert.:driving:

Yes I believe the green heatshield is correct for the engine Randy did for us. I think the longbridge cars are the most misunderstood cars of all the big healeys, even more than the 100M.

I am still faffing around trying to understand this choke / start lever mechanism

The picture from Andrea shows a square piece that attaches to the bottom leaver as well as taking the choke cable.....see photo

I cannot find that listed in any spares catalogue, Moss. AH Spares, SC Parts, SU Carbs.

Is it home made?

The cable comes in from the top, the casing being retained by 378-618. The inner cable continues down to 378-648, which mounts to the lower lever. I have added an additional return spring on the lower lever to return it to running position when the choke cable is returned.

Hi everyone.

I have studied this entire thread and still can't figure out if the choke outer casing is supposed to be secured firmly inside the choke cable bracket (#115 below). If the outer cable is supposed to be secure in the bracket can anyone tell me how the choke cable outer outer casing is secured in the choke cable bracket using the choke cable trunnion (#100 below).

Sal - This should do it. The drill represents the cable housing. Tightening the nut clamps the barrel onto the cable housing while still letting it rotate freely in the bracket hole. These are stock parts.
