CHOKE! [me]

Is stuck. Maybe. I suppose it isn't, tapping the accelerator didn't unstick it.

After dahubby 'fixed' it, set the idle at 850, started fine. Took it out for a drive this evening and she started right away, but is idling about 1800-2000. Dahubby left this morning til Thursday.

How do I adjust that dohicky on the thingamajig under the bonnet?

((on the upside, muffler isn't gurgling now)) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif

Jaybird, first check the cable to make sure it is't sticking, the little half wheel and the other side of the choke or that the spring has come off it. Wayne

Choke doesn't seem to be sticking. Not sure about the half wheel or the spring, doesn't look like anything is missing to me, but what do I know? (see attachment)

Jaybird, you are look on the wrong side for the accelerator cable, check that and I will have a look see on your picture. Wayne

Accelerator cable or choke cable?

Jaybird, looking at your picture, it looks like one of the water hose clamps is touching the choke cable and keeping the fast idle from coming off. Perhaps the hose moved after the car got hot. Does this sound funny, my wife is laughing her head off. I quit, it all sounds naughty. Wayne

I didn't warm it up enough to get hot. Soon as I started, I noticed the rpms were up.

Oh good grief, now you have me doing it. I'm going out to the garage to have a look again.

((tell your wife I like the way she thinks)) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Jaybird, it's surpose to run at a high RPM when it's cold, mine you, yours is a bit too high and will need adjustment, but once you get it warmed it should drop back. Wayne

The hose is half inch or so from the cable, the entire cable is unobstructed.

Drove it 30 minutes this evening and it never dropped down. Tapping the accelerator didn't do a thing. Stayed right at 2000 at an idle.

Jaybird, DH has some adjusting to do on the inside. Did you check the accelarator cable? Just flip the little half circle and then start the car and see what happens after. Wayne

I don't know where the accelerator cable is. Or the little half circle thingy. But I can find them if you point me in the right direction.

Dahubby is gone til Thursday and I'm not letting the car sit. I can adjust the idle, once I know how to do it. Can't be that hard, he just turned a little thingy with a screwdriver or something.

It's not a cable, it's a lever? I'm sounding really stupid now, sorry.

GRRRR. I'm taking Grease Monkeys 101 at the local junior college this spring.

Jaybird, yes that is a lever, but the cable wraps around it and opens and closes the throttle disc which is attached to the throttle shaft (29 and 30) and the idle screw will be the one that moves this shaft. Wayne

Don't give up. I have been a mech of one sort or another for forty some years and, today, I couldn't find the starter on a my lawn tractor! Had to call four different places before someone told me, in simple words, just where it was! Duh.

Oh I won't give up. I'll have this fixed before I leave in the morning. I just keep running back and forth from my Bentley to the computer back to the car. Besides, is raining now, can't take her out any more tonight.

I started her again. Without flipping the little half circle thingy. She starts first turn, but is still idling at right under 2000.

~runs back out to the garage~

I can't find the little half circle thingy.

But I found a drink. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Jaybird, so now I know where the rain is coming from, you have ruined my golf for tomorrow. Thanks a bunch, Wayne

At least golf balls don't have chokes on them!!!
