Choke Cable

I have installed the new dash and gauges in my car but the dash has no hole for the choke cable. The old cable was installed on a bracket below the dash but all of the resto photos show it in the dash. I have an early BT7. Has anyone ever seen it installed below the dash instead of in the dash. skip,
I am not to sure about your cars with left hand drive , but I am pretty sure that that all the 100 and early 3000 UK RH drive cars have the choke cable fixed to a bracket on the parcel shelf on the left hand side of the car . For you guys with Left Hand drive cars that would mean some bracket on the right hand side of the bracket supporting the steering column undrneath the dash . I have seen many pictures of early cars with the push button for windscreen washers mounted on the dasboard , are you sure the pictures you are looking at refer to the choke knob ? and not the washer button .
Regards , Mark

Hi Skip,

My sources show that production of the BT7 began in March, 1959. The choke control was likely under the dash.

In July 1959, at E.29D/2864 - C.BT7/2194, an electric choke was introduced & the manual choke deleted. Of course there was no choke pull knob at all.

In November 1959, at E.29D/6369 - C.BT7/5310, the manual choke was re-introduced with a knob in the dash. It appears that the knob is horizontally in line with the washer knob, several inches to the left, & slightly to the right of the cold air knob below it.

Thanks guys I am going to reinstall it in the bracket that is under the steering column. It just seemed a strange place for it to be but that is where it was when I got the car. By the way I finished the new wiring harness this evening and everything works with NO SMOKE. Thanks Skip
