TR2/3/3A Choke Cable Problem

Something does not sound correct. The last original style choke I bought from Moss about 5 years ago was nice. The choke only pulls out maybe 1-1/4 total before bottoming out and the knob comes off and first click is about a ½ inch. There is the little spring steel keeper deal on the back that holds the clicker in place and sometimes if that is turned around the keep falls out.

It sounds like the little ratchet key is missing from your choke when you pull the choke out you should be able to see the ramps for the rachet on the shaft. If you haven't pulled it apart it must have been faulty or missing the key that holds it out I would ask Moss about it?

Thanks David. My connections match! I was unsure about the rear hookup but if I am viewing correctly, it is between the clevis, not outside?

sp53, I have studied the photograph (page 1) many times and read several other posts but could never determine to my satisfaction the proper positioning.

Thank you,

Jay

Hello Jay

There is a great sketch on page 6 of the "More BS about TR's" booklet. It shows the how the linkage is connected.

I was mistaken. The choke does stay in the open position when pulled without springing back. Turning the knob and pushing it back in returns the jets to the non choke position.

Cool...I was about to post that if the choke does not stay in place, then someone moved the retaining clip on the outside of the sleeve, so the little "chip" that engages the cable fell out. Having done this...twice!...it is much easier to lose the chip than it is to make a new one.

Because of this thread I re-did my linkage and located the clevis on the side. I put mine on the side nearest to the engine, like the first picture shows. This lined up best with the bracket.
The choke operates better this way but I can't figure out why.
