Choke cable connections

Hi everyone, as can be seen by my profile I am a "newbie." /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif
I purchased a 66 TR4A live axle model about 6 weeks ago. I wanted a "Driver" for the summer and a project through the winter and I got lucky. I did however decide to take on a few minor tasks, one being replacement of the dash support bracket cover and the switch plinth located above. When I was in the process of disconnecting the choke cable I found the set up somewhat strange. I have much literature on these cars and many pictures but none of them show the connections of the choke cable to the carb. I can install it back the way it was and it sort of works but is hokey! My other option is to install it differently and it will work fine, but my curiosity is peaked and I wonder if anyone can help with a photo of the cable at the carbs so that I can use this as a reference?
Thanks for any help,
Paulus

Hi, Paulus, and welcome to the Forum.

Which carb setup do you have? SU's, Zenith, Weber?

Hi Mickey,
The carbs are Zenith can you help? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Paulus -

Sorry, but I don't have any firsthand experience with Zeniths. However, I'm sure someone will check in with some help soon.

I've got a TR6 with ZS's, but I don't know if the attachment is the same as they are on the TR4. My cable splits into two cables right behind the dash. Then each side runs to a carb. There is a small spring metal type clip which fits around the end of the cables outter jacket, and this keeps the jacket firmly in place on a mount on the side of the carb body. Then the inner cable goes through a small eyelet on the choke arm, and there is a small set screw that gets tightened down to hold the cable in place on the choke arm. I can try and snap a picture later tonight when I get home if you like, if no one else gets to it before me.

I have a '66 TR4A live axle, too. But I have SU, HS6 carbs.

Are you positive you have Zeniths? I just rebuilt my carbs and choke, by the way.

I have 2 66 TR4A solid axles, 1 (my driver) has the SUs, the other has the Zeniths. But that's the parts car and they came in a box. I would really say go with what works.

Thanks everybody for the input. I installed the choke the way it came out. it works and I believe it is correct. It just seems that there was a better way!

Paulus, welcome to LBC ownership, there's a motto for these cars that goes "Why use 1 bolt when 4 will do"
There always seems to be a better way!
